How do I register routes in the APIRR?See Registering objects for more information. Also see updating and deleting objects.Can I submit updates from different email addresses?If you use MAIL-FROM authentication, yes you can, provided that you have specified these addresses in the auth field of the maintainer. However, APNIC recommends using a stronger authentication method as the MAIL-FROM method is vulnerable to email spoofing. See Authentication and the APIRR for more information.Should I upgrade my whois client?Yes, you will need to upgrade to use the new database server options. The new version of the RIPE whois client is available at RIPE.Why do I have duplicate entries in the APIRR?It is possible for the database to contain several route objects for a given prefix/length if they have different AS origin. This is because when you submit a route object to the APIRR, it is parsed to see if there is a matching object in the database. If it finds a match, it is treated as an update. Otherwise, it is treated as a new object. The features of a route object that distinguish it from other objects are:
Can we send in our complete database weekly to update our records?Yes, but please combine your data into a minimum number of email messages. Alternatively, run a routing registry server of your own and ask APNIC to mirror it. For more information, see Mirroring with APIRR. How do I generate a password for the CRYPT-PW authentication method?Use the CRYPT-PW tool provided by Merit or use a simple perl script that uses the crypt subroutine to do this.With CRYPT-PW, do I use my plaintext password or the password generated with the crypt calculator when I submit objects?Use the crypt version in your auth: field. This is displayed to the public in the maintainer.How fast do changes appear in the APIRR?Objects are updated in the APIRR as soon as they are submitted to auto-irr@irr.apnic.net. Updates are copied to the APNIC FTP area every two hours.What's the difference between the APIRR and the IRR?The APIRR is one of many databases in the Internet Routing Registry. The APIRR handles registrations for networking organisations in the Asia Pacific region or those not covered by the other routing registries.Do all the registries in the IRR contain the same data?No. The databases are separate entities, and most users will only need to register in one of them. APNIC keeps a copy of many of the registries, but entries in the other databases are not included in the APIRR.I'm registered in more than one database. Which database isused for Internet routing?If you are peering with an RSng Route Server at an IXP, you may use your APIRR aut-num object to indicate the priority you want to give to various databases when the Route Server generates its configuration files.
